Calibration Laboratory for Energy Meters
GOSSEN METRAWATT is equipped with a
federally recognized testing laboratory
for electricity measuring instruments.
The Bavarian authority for weights and measures recognizes our test laboratory in accordance with requirements set forth in calibration legislation.
Our top-hat rail mounting meters are calibrated and recalibrated in our official measuring laboratory. Only calibrated meters may be used for billing purposes.
According to test regulations introduced by the German Federal Institute for Physics and Metrology (PTB), appropriately established test points are calibrated to ensure adherence to specified error limits - for example start-up, no-load operation and accuracy.
Type approval, including a seal of approval applied to the meter, is a prerequisite for calibration. Approval is issued by the responsible authority. The following table lists the appropriate authorities for several countries:
| Country | Abbreviation | Seal of Approval | Approval Authority | |
| Germany | PTB | |
Federal Institute for Physics and Metrology
| Austria | BEV | |
Bundesamt für Eich- u. Vermessungswesen
| Switzerland | metas | |

The seal constitutes legal substantiation of calibration. The seal includes our test laboratory designation (EB8) and the year of calibration (in this case 2000).
The meter is furnished with a tamper-proof seal in order to rule out any possibility of manipulation.
The duration of calibration validity for electronic meters is 8 years. A calibration certificate can be issued upon request for a fee.
